Chandrika Sahai, Philanthropy for Social Justice and Peace (India)

Since the first Global Summit on Community Philanthropy in 2016 (and even before that), the #ShiftThePower movement has been leveraging a shared vision from a diversity of spaces, places and actors for a different way of being in the worlds of philanthropy and development. Collectively these initiatives paint a picture of a system where fragility is met with compassion: solidarity, dignity and trust are the basis of our relationships; our strategies are nimble; and our actions are in service of the agency and imagination of those whose lives are embedded in the contexts we seek to influence. The work towards building this system is already happening. Narratives and practices that speak of and model support and resourcing of civil society, social movements, and development work in communities in ways that serve this vision of a system based on compassion, solidarity, flexibility, agency and imagination are emerging all over the world - particularly in the Global South.

The #ShiftThePower Global Summit in Bogotá will be a landmark event in bringing these diverse initiatives together to share their wisdom and knowledge, to build community and to amplify their collective voice and influence. Philanthropy for Social Justice and Peace is proud to be part of the #ShiftThePower movement.
